Zion’s Missions Committee Sponsors the Hummel family in Tanzania

One of the missionary families which Zion sponsors is the Hummel family. Keith, Ellen, Gerry, Alex, and Leah Hummel are in the village of Shirati, Tanzania for a three year term with Eastern Mennonite Missions.  Keith, a member of Bowmansville Mennonite Church, is the former administrator of Frederick Mennonite Community and is mentoring the new administrator of the Shirati Hospital who is a recent college graduate.

Shirati Hospital is affiliated with the Mennonite Church and is located in rural northwestern Tanzania, along Lake Victoria. There is a lot of poverty in this area and the hospital is a very important institution in the community.

We encourage you to learn more about this mission and invite you to check out these two very informational websites for pictures, journals, maps and histories.

Mission’s Peace and Social Concerns

Mission’s Peace and Social Concerns try to keep the church updated or informed about local peace things and environmental stewardship. Mission also tries to keep people informed of concerns going on in the community by word, deeds and articles.

Mission’s Peace and Social Concerns has a fund started at Penn Foundation through a Zion member, so that Penn Foundation clients in great need may go to the Care & Share Shoppe and spend $100 a year per person and the Zion member pays for it.

Mission’s Peace and Social Concerns organize a once a year Peace Sunday in order to enlighten members and visitors.

Finally the Mission’s Peace and Social Concerns try to get information and teach peace material to the youth on the everyday concerns of our community and around the world.
